Many forms of dance are beautiful and joyful. The variety of music people dance to as well as the variety of movement styles, makes the art of dance rich and varied. Since I love dancing a number of different styles, I assembled some performances that Danceintime did in musical styles other than Rueda de Casino and Salsa, as well as blending together a mix of dance and music styles.

Below are a variety of such videos. Enjoy!

1 . DANCE PERFORMANCES THAT TELL A STORY

a. This is a Cha Cha that tells a story based on the TV show Charlie’s Angels. (The routine was performed at the Miami Salsa Congress and the DC Salsa Congress.)

b. This is a Rueda routine largely, but we embedded Indian, Hip Hop, Irish dancing, and some other styles into the presentation. It also has a unique “James Bond" story line! It was performed at the San Francisco Rueda Festival years ago.

c. DIT’s "Street Performer Routine" with Sam and Imani (Hip Hop and Indian Classical Dancing)

d. youtu.be/9YS1BgWs-zc Another DIT "Street Performer Routine" with Sam and Mauricio (Hip Hop and Latin Dancing)

2. DANCE ROUTINES OTHER THAN SALSA, CHA CHA, OR RUEDA DE CASINO

a. youtu.be/ZN9GwKJEeVQ Around 2017, DIT started a “Fusion Team” that did some routines in a variety of different dance styles. This video has a variety of routines—we hired a choreographer to lead some of them; I developed; and a few were choreographed by members of the group.

b. youtu.be/XxCdJD59A7Y The first routine is a musical theater-style routine, performed to “Be Our Guest” from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast." (The video shows that and a Rueda with moves from other dance styles performed at a wedding reception.)

There is a funny/bizarre story about this event. The first number was supposed to be performed partly by Danceintime and partly by another dance company. This is odd and unwise, but the wedding coordinator wanted to break the song up that way, and she assigned DIT the first half. But when we completed our portion, the other dancers didn’t begin their part!

So after waiting a little, instead of leaving an empty stage, I pushed the two Danceintime dancers to just improvise the rest of the dance. You can see them leaping across the floor, doing turns etc—all totally unplanned. But they looked ok, and our quick thinking and the skill of those two ladies really saved the day. I found out later that the other dance company simply didn’t realize when they were supposed to perform. So they weren’t even in the room when that routine was done!!

3. BLENDING MULTIPLE DANCE STYLES INTO A SINGLE PRESENTATION

a. youtu.be/uEgrI03nvNs This is primarily a Rueda routine, but we embedded Indian, Hip Hop, Irish dancing, and some other styles into the presentation. It also has a unique “James Bond" story line! It was performed at the San Francisco Rueda Festival.

b. youtu.be/L4l17NUcWrc Medley of Salsa, Cha Cha, (Ballroom) Rumba and Polynesian Dancing at a performance at the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress

c. youtu.be/O6A4galJ3JY Modern Dance, Indian Dancing, Colombian Salsa, and Hip Hop are blended with Rueda de Casino in the this video.

4. DANCING WITH THE STARS COMPETITIONS

a. youtu.be/GEHlz-A62kc Good Morning Washington — Danceintime taught a Merengue routine to a well-known (WJLA-channel 7) TV Weatherman for a "Dancing with the Local Stars” Competition! The routine was performed at a minor-league Bowie Baysox game.

b. youtu.be/AkyVd7jKhsU This is a Bachata routine that Barb taught contestant Ryan Sneddon, a popular community leader and creator of Annapolis Newspaper: the “Naptown Scoop.” He participated in a local Annapolis dance competition called “Dancing with the Movers & Shakers.” The event was great fun and no one was paid; all proceeds all went to charity.

5. CREATIVE USE OF MUSIC & SONG

b. Original Music By a Team Member

youtu.be/myUh5Crk6FM Anthony F. Rosado wrote and produced music for a DIT performance at the San Francisco Salsa Rueda Festival. (He sang the vocal version of the music and then the team danced to the Salsa version of the same song.)

c. Two Versions of Same Song

youtu.be/0kE5UQfI1X0 We danced to two different versions of the same song. First is the Bachata version, and then a Salsa version. This was performed at the Baltimore Salsa Congress.

6. REALITY TV APPEARANCE

youtu.be/h6zyLmdJO2o The Discover Channel produced a “reality TV.” I (Barb Bernstein) was asked to be a Salsa instructor for a segment of the show, teaching moves to the main character and her date. This video has a few clips from that show. It aired in the UK, however, not in the U.S.

7. PARADE PREPARATION
